“Memory is cute…”

Memory is like a cat—selective, unpredictable, independent, and sometimes impossible to control. It lingers in the background, always present, but only comes forward on its own terms. Sometimes it appears when called (recall), and other times it hides, only to resurface when we least expect it.

Selective: Memory doesn’t store everything equally—it prioritizes certain moments, much like a cat choosing when and where to give attention.

Unpredictable: Some memories stay vivid for years, while others fade unexpectedly. Sometimes, a smell, sound, or object (like shaking a treat bag for a cat) brings a memory rushing back.

Always there, but sometimes out of reach: Even when we feel we’ve forgotten something, it exists somewhere, waiting to return when triggered.

Independent of our control: You can’t force a cat to sit with you—just like you can’t always force yourself to remember something. But when the right moment comes, it appears on its own.
